John Innes SEED Compost
Our John Innes Seed Peat Free compost is made from the 50 year old recipe of loam and horticultural grit combined with bark fines and COIR. It has a peat free formula but with the addition of loam gives the seeds a base fertiliser to begin their germination and establishment of young plants. Our John Innes Seed Peat Free compost is a best seller for sowing seeds and seedlings as it provides a balanced nutrient supply, the loam based composition makes it easier to water and to re-wet it also acts as a store for water retention. Our compost has a pH of 5.5 which is the optimum level for the absorption of nutrients such as calcium and nitrogen from the soil to young roots that are developing."

Whilst our John Innes No.1 Peat Free compost is suitable for a wide range of species, some modifications are required for some specialized plants. For example, calcifuge plants such as Ericas and Rhododendrons should be grown in our John Innes Ericaceous Peat Free compost.
