John Innes No.1 Compost
Our John Innes No.1 Peat Free compost is made from the 50 year old recipe of loam and horticultural grit combined with bark fines and COIR. It has a peat free formula but the addition of loam gives the young plants a base suited for young plant root development and to allow for the changing nutritional requirements of a growing plant. Whilst our John Innes No.1 Peat Free compost is suitable for a wide range of species, some modifications are required for some specialized plants. For example, calcifuge plants such as Ericas and Rhododendrons should be grown in our John Innes Ericaceous Peat Free compost.

Our compost has a pH of 5.5 which is the optimum level for the absorption of nutrients such as calcium and nitrogen from the soil to young roots that are developing."
