It has a peat free formula but the addition of loam gives the young plants a base suited for young plant root development and to allow for the changing nutritional requirements of a growing plant. Whilst our John Innes No.1 Peat Free compost is suitable for a wide range of species, some modifications are required for some specialized plants. For example, calcifuge plants such as Ericas and Rhododendrons should be grown in our John Innes Ericaceous Peat Free compost.
