It has a peat free formula but with the addition of loam gives the seeds a base fertiliser to begin their germination and establishment of young plants. Our John Innes Seed Peat Free compost is a best seller for sowing seeds and seedlings as it provides a balanced nutrient supply, the loam based composition makes it easier to water and to re-wet it also acts as a store for water retention. Our compost has a pH of 5.5 which is the optimum level for the absorption of nutrients such as calcium and nitrogen from the soil to young roots that are developing."
